Here are our latest branch updates:

Lockdown – we hope you’ve had time to read the email we sent to all members last week regarding the lockdown measures for the University of Leeds. Government guidance was also received last week and further announcements have been made by the University about who should and should not be on campus. We believe only essential staff and staff who are affected by domestic abuse or mental health should be working on campus. We are all hearing reports that our NHS is at breaking point, more so than during the first lockdown last year, so the less staff who are on campus, or travelling to and from campus, the better. If you have any concerns about your working situation, whether that be on campus, working from home or a mix of both, please get in touch with us at unison@leeds.ac.uk. You can find a copy of our email to the University at the bottom of this update.

Leeds Arts and Leeds Trinity – we are awaiting information from both these institutions on their plans for this third lockdown. If you are a member there and have any concerns, please share them us as soon as possible at unison@leeds.ac.uk

Leeds Trinity Rep – we have been without a rep at Leeds Trinity for three months. We have representatives from the Branch attending University management meetings, but we believe that a rep who is based at Trinity would provide a better service for our membership there: you know your institution better than we do. If you are interested in taking up the role, full training is provided (with paid time off) and you will be assigned a mentor from within the Branch to provide extra support. If you are interested in the role, please contact us at unison@leeds.ac.uk

Sheffield Hallam Petition – if you haven’t already signed, please consider showing solidarity for our colleagues at Sheffield Hallam Student’s Union, who are under threat of compulsory redundancies. You can find further information and sign the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/sheffield-hallam-students-union-stop-redundancies-at-sheffield-hallam-students-union

There for You Charity – UNISON’s There For You charity is available to anyone who is struggling financially. There is also funding of up to £500 available as part of their Covid-19 grant, further details of which can be found on their website. Please do access this support if you are in financial difficulties and get in touch with the Branch if you need any support accessing this help.

Menopause Guidance Feedback – a reminder that if you would like to give us feedback on the University’s menopause guidance you do so here. Your feedback is important for when we discuss the guidance with the University, so any insights, thoughts or suggestions you can give us will be really helpful.
