Here are the latest branch updates:

  • UoL Strike Ballot – the postal strike ballot regarding this year’s 1.5% pay award opens in a few weeks (Monday 6 December):
    • Do talk to colleagues in your area about the upcoming ballot and encourage them to vote if they are members.
    • If they’re not members, any new joiners to the branch by 17 January 2022 will be eligible to vote.
    • You can ensure your personal details are all up-to-date by registering with or logging into My UNISON or by emailing us at unison@leeds.ac.uk.
    • Since February, the Branch has supported members in almost 300 cases, and given many more individual pieces of advice. Another essential part of our work as a Trade Union is collective consultation and action, which works to the benefit of us all.
    • In order that we are understood to have collective strength – which in turn ensures that we can help individuals with their cases – we need members to be involved and demonstrating solidarity, by such things as voting in ballots or attending meetings: a union is literally nothing without its members.
  • Raffle Donation Events – please come along to one of these if you can:
    • we have an up-coming donation event on Tuesday, 23 November, 11.30am – 1pm in Ziff Café. Please come along to donate any food and sundry items you can spare for Trussell Trust Leeds South & East and Richmond Hill Elderly Action. We’ll also have freebies and 2022 diaries to pick up, so come along if you can!
    • For Leeds Arts members, we are unable to hold a donation event on-site at LAU, but Ziff café is only a 5-minute walk away from your campus: walk past Parkinson Clock Tower and keep going down the hill until you see the glass Ziff Building on your right. Once there, enter and walk up the first set of steps you see up to the café area.
    • We’ll also be holding a donation event at Leeds Trinity on Wednesday, 1 December, 11.30-1pm, in the Atrium. We’ll send out further details to all Trinity members, but please encourage your colleagues to donate if they can: if they’re not members, they can’t enter the raffle but all donations will be gratefully accepted.
  • UCU Strike Action – UoL – UCU colleagues on campus will be taking strike action from Wednesday, 1 December – Friday, 3 December, 2021. We have asked UCU how best we can support them during this strike and we’ll keep you posted on what you can do to show your support on the picket lines and any rallies which are planned. One thing we would remind you about, is that managers should not ask you to cover work which would normally be undertaken by UCU colleagues, during this period. If you are asked, please decline – it is not your job to cover the work of anyone who is on strike. If you are feeling any pressure to undertake extra work, please let us know at unison@leeds.ac.uk

As always, if you would like advice and support about a workplace issue, please contact us at unison@leeds.ac.uk or contact your local rep or Branch Officer and you can find up-to-date information on our branch website and social media channels, details of which can be found below.
