Here are our updates from this week:
- Pay Consultation – the HE Pay Consultation opened on Tuesday, 3 November, and many of you should have already received an email with a link to vote. We would encourage all members to vote in this consultation – the employer has offered a 0% pay freeze, despite student registrations being higher than ever and staff working even harder this year to ensure campuses stayed open and Universities continued running. This year, all Branches in HE are using disaggregated balloting, meaning that if our Branch reaches over 50% of members voting, we will be in a position to take action, even if other Branches have not met the 50% threshold.
As in other years, we need to know if you have voted (not which way you voted) so that you don’t receive emails and phone calls from our Regional Office asking if you have voted. If you have voted, please can you let us know by emailing email@example.com and we’ll ensure your name is taken off the contact list.
The Branch is in favour of rejecting the 0% pay offer. The consultation ends on Monday, 30 November, so please ensure you vote before the 30th and make your voice heard.
- Recruitment – we have launched a new recruitment campaign for staff at Leeds Arts University, Leeds Trinity University and Leeds University Union over the winter months. For each member you recruit that works in any of these locations, you get £25 and an entry into a prize draw to win £100 LovetoShop vouchers! The member that you recruit also gets 3 months free subscriptions. This recruitment campaign is running from 1 November, 2020 to 31 January, 2021. If you recruit a member, send us your name and the name of the member you’ve recruited to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- General Secretary Election – you should have received your ballot pack for this election by post and we would encourage you to vote – this is your chance to decide who leads your union for the next few years! If you do not receive your ballot papers by 10 November, please call 0800 0 857 857. Members not on the national UNISON membership system on 28 July 2020 will not be eligible to vote. Retired members are eligible to vote. The Branch nominated Paul Holmes as a candidate for General Secretary and our 100-word statement on this nomination is as follows:
The Branch Committee voted for Paul Holmes based on his detailed candidate statement as well as the answers he gave at the regionally organised hustings, his current position as a lay member of UNISON as a Branch Secretary, his commitment to increasing the funding of Branches, his promise to only take his current working wage as his salary (£32,000) and his strong commitment to fighting for members. We are supportive of the prospect of change that Paul can deliver within UNISON’s leadership and how this will positively impact Branches and members. (91 words).
- Are your details up to date? We know that if you move house, change telephone number or email address that you may not remember to update your details with UNISON. If any of your details have changed recently, or you would like to check that your information is correct on UNISON’s systems, you can do so by logging into My UNISON (if you need your membership number to log in or register, it should be visible at the bottom of this email) or by sending your updated details to email@example.com
As always, please get in touch with us if you need advice or support at firstname.lastname@example.org.
