Return to campus (University of Leeds) – there have been an increased amount of walk arounds this week, with our Safety Reps involved in the majority of these walks. Things are moving more quickly and over the next few weeks, buildings will start to be signed off for re-occupancy. If you are contacted by your manager about a return to campus and you have concerns about this, please speak to your manager in the first instance and contact us if you have further concerns. Would you like to be a Safety Rep? – if you would be interested in joining the Branch as a Safety Rep, now is a great time to join. You can also contact our Branch Health & Safety Officer, Nick Creighton, for a chat about the role at firstname.lastname@example.org First Bus Leeds – do you use buses in and around Leeds and West Yorkshire? The Better Buses for Yorkshire campaign is calling for our bus services to be brought under public control to ensure lower fares and better services. Click on the link for more information. Branch Education Fund – would you like to learn a new skill or hobby? Our Education Fund is still running and accepting applications for online courses. We will consider funding for any course up to £350 as long as it is not work-related and something your employer should pay for. For further details about the fund and how to apply, please contact our Education Officer, Vicky McEnroe, at email@example.com Annual Leave – you should have received our email on Wednesday relating to annual leave, if you have any queries or concerns, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org Confirmation & Clearing (C&C) – we’re aware that there have been mixed messages regarding C&C over the past two weeks. We have met with the university who have assured us a new communication to Admissions staff will be sent out shortly, with a clearer explanation of how C&C will work during August. We also reminded the university about the overtime policy during this period, to ensure that managers allow staff to take TOIL or if after 8 weeks TOIL cannot be taken, that overtime is paid. If you have any concerns about the new C&C process, please let us know. Pay Claim – you may have received an email from Unison regarding this year’s pay claim. The employers have made clear that they will be offering no pay rise this year and cannot guarantee job security for all staff in HE. The HESGE will be meeting on 14 July to discuss this “offer” and feedback to Branches, but we would like to state categorically that we do not accept a 0% pay rise this year, especially in the current circumstances where many staff are going above and beyond their day-today roles to ensure the continued running of the university. We will send further news on the pay claim over the next few weeks.
